Workshop Five: Advancing and Connecting Racial Justice and Sexual Violence Prevention during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Advancing and Connecting Racial Justice and Sexual Violence Prevention during the COVID-19 Pandemic
PreventConnect and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center have hosted five previous web conferences in the series Sexual Violence Prevention During COVID-19: Adapting in an Ever-Changing Landscape. As we conclude this iteration of the series, join PreventConnect and NSVRC for this web conference where participants will reflect on key learnings from earlier web conferences in this series and explore ways to transform those learnings into action despite an ever-changing COVID-19 landscape.
Advancing and Connecting Racial Justice and Sexual Violence Prevention during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Concerns about participant safety persist after one-year and climbing of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sexual violence preventionists often face participants and youth disclosing their own experiences with violence in prevention spaces. Responding in a trauma-informed way is essential, and doing so in online and remote environments can pose additional challenges.
Sexual assault, abuse, and harassment can be risk factors for homelessness, and homelessness is a risk factor for experiencing rape or sexual assault. Both sexual violence and homelessness are the result of historical and structural oppression, with Black individuals, other people of color, and Indigenous individuals experiencing both homelessness and sexual violence at much higher rates. This webinar will dig into how sexual violence coalitions could use Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding to benefit sexual violence survivors.
