The YWCA of Hawaiʻi Island

About this Organization

Since the 1970s, YWCA has provided response programs to victims of sexual assault known as Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS). The YWCA of Hawaiʻi Island is dedicated to changing the beliefs that accompany sexual violence. They seek to create a society that does not minimize sexual crimes, that does not permit the shaming or silencing of the assaulted or hide the crime out of shame – a society where perpetrators are held accountable, mandated for treatment and prevented from offending again.

The YWCA offers support services for victims and their families:

  • Free, Confidential Counseling
  • Advocacy
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Emotional and Moral Support
  • Available for All Ages
  • Assistance Deciding Whether to File a Police Report

Trans Student Educational Resources

About this Organization
Email
tser@transstudent.org

Trans Student Educational Resources was co-founded in 2011 two 16-year-old transgender women, as Trans Student Equality Resources. It was and remains the only national organization run by young transgender people. TSER was originally envisioned as an organization for creating safer schools through youth-led action. During our early years, much of our work focused on policy. Since this time, we have hugely expanded our efforts in scope and scale to encompass many programs and services.

Trans Youth Equality Foundation (TYEF)

About this Organization

The Trans Youth Equality Foundation is a national 501(c)(3) non profit foundation that advocates for transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex youth ages 2–18. Our organization was founded by the mother of a transgender child; with support from some good friends and a few transgender and youth providers she began to build a board and programs. Through her own struggle to find resources for her child between 2002 and 2007, she realized the great need for high quality resources and support services for youth and their families. TYEF seeks to address this need through our yearly youth retreats, including a popular summer and fall camp; TransWaves, an educational podcast program; trainings for educational and medical professionals; youth workshops; and our social media presence. TYEF was founded upon the principal that no family and no child has to be alone on this journey.

Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF)

About this Organization
Email
info@transgenderlegal.org

Founded in 2003, Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to end discrimination and achieve equality for transgender people, particularly those in our most vulnerable communities. Transgender people have been subject to pervasive discrimination that has kept them, with rare exceptions, hidden from public view. While this discrimination has begun to lessen, transgender people still experience much prejudice and violence.

Our strategies include pathbreaking trans rights cases and "friend of the court" briefs regarding the key issues of employment, health care, education and public accommodations. We seek to coordinate with traditional civil rights organizations and other LGBT civil rights organizations. We also provide public education on transgender rights.

TransLatin@ Coalition

About this Organization
Email
hola@translatinacoalition.org

The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) was founded in 2009 by a group of Transgender and Gender nonconforming and Intersex (TGI) immigrant women in Los Angeles, California, as a grassroots response to address the specific needs of TGI Latin@ immigrants who live in the United States.

Since then, the agency has become a nationally recognized organization with representation in 10 different states across the U.S. and provides direct services to TGI individuals in Los Angeles. In 2015, The TransLatin@ Coalition identified the urgent need to provide direct services to empower TGI people in response to structural, institutional, and interpersonal violence, and the Center for Violence Prevention and Transgender Wellness was born. Since then, the organization has secured funding from the state and local government sources as well as several private foundations and organizations to provide direct services to all TGI individuals in Los Angeles County (LAC). TLC’s primary focus is to change the landscape of access to services for TGI people and provide access to comprehensive resource and services that will improve the quality of life of TGI people.
