Talk early, talk often is a big phrase this year for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. An idea born in a workgroup meeting last June is now the call to action of our campaign. We are asking adults to play a role in supporting healthy children by breaking through silence and opening up communication. Talking early, talking often is also how we want to approach sharing the SAAM campaign.

Planning for Sexual Assault Awareness Month has entered the second trimester, so to speak, as we are now counting down less than 6 months to April 2013. Whoa baby, the time is flying! On the backstage side of things, we are still in limbo with a number of deadlines leading up to the release of resource materials online and by mail in January. But there have been many planning milestones in recent weeks, and I’d like to provide a sneak peak on the topic of our upcoming campaign resources: Healthy childhood sexual development.

Holidays often bring us back home to family and loved ones. Home and family look and feel different to each of us, and our feelings toward gathering for the holidays may run the gamut as well. In these moments of connecting, celebrating and rest, when traditions are practiced and created, consider taking small steps to express and support healthy development.

For those of us who work to create and share messages, we tend to think a lot about impact. Will this call to action move people? Does this commercial speak to you? We think about impact because we want to know if we are getting it right. Does our message stick? Whether you are looking to inspire social action or convince people to purchase a product, impact is your first opportunity to move your audience.
