Description

In observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, The Victim Services Program of Family Services Incorporated is hosting our annual Lunch and Learn training opportunity. Titled Abuse in Plain Sight, the Lunch and Learn will feature national consultant, researcher, trainer and author, Jimmy Hinton along with clergy abuse survivor and advocate, Shaun Dougherty.

The son of a pastor and now a pastor himself, Jimmy Hinton began his work in uncovering the deception of abuse when his sister disclosed her own abuse at the hands of their father. Jimmy reported his father to authorities, which led to his confession of 23 more victims and a conviction of 30-60 years. Since then, Jimmy has collaborated and researched with neuroscientists Dr. Stephen Macknik and Dr. Susana Martinez-Conde, focusing his research on deception techniques of skilled abusers who molest children in plain sight. Jimmy has also worked with acclaimed magicians in understanding and recognizing sleight of hand and focus of attention psychology.

Shaun Dougherty is a survivor of child clergy abuse and since disclosing as an adult, has advocated for other survivors and continues to fight to end statute of limitation laws in Pa and in other states. Shaun is nationally and internationally recognized for his work in advocating for survivors’ voices to be heard and justice to be found. In his spare time, he also owns Crescent Grill in Long Island, NY, a Farm-to-Table restaurant and art gallery.
