This year, for the 25th anniversary of the national Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) campaign, the theme is “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward.”
For 25 years, SAAM has united survivors, advocates, and communities in the shared commitment to end sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. This milestone is both a celebration of progress and a call to keep moving forward. Throughout the month, we will honor the movement’s history and growth while reaffirming our commitment to a safer future for all.
Last year, we introduced weekly themes to help SAAM planners focus their efforts and emphasize SAAM’s core messages. We were excited to receive positive feedback on this more structured approach and are excited to reintroduce weekly themes this year. As with all of NSVRC’s SAAM campaign materials, these weekly themes are optional, and we encourage you to adapt SAAM messages and content to be most impactful for your community and needs.
Our goal is to provide you with tools to support your planning and outreach, but awareness and prevention efforts are most effective when grounded in what you know about your community and audience.
Focus: Look back on the history of the SAAM campaign, and honor the history and milestones of the movement.
Focus: Survivors’ voices have always been and remain the foundation of this movement. Past, present, and future, this week’s theme shows that listening to survivors and respecting their diverse experiences is essential.
Focus: Preventing sexual abuse, assault, and harassment takes action on every level: individual, community, organizations, and systems. We have a shared responsibility to create environments that promote safety, accountability, and respect.
Focus: Let’s pursue our vision for a bright future defined by healing and prevention. This week is for looking ahead at the next 25 years and how we can engage a new generation in shaping change.
Focus: Celebrate 25 years of change and renew our commitment for tomorrow! Closing out the 25th anniversary campaign with a call to action to keep moving forward.
