Connecticut: Language Access

According to census data, about 22.3% (808,644 people) exclusively speak a language other than English at home.  8.9% of people (306, 000 people) are Limited English Proficiency (LEP). About 1.5% (33,832 people) are classified as having a hearing disability According to the CDC, more than 60,000 people identify as being blind or having a severe difficulty seeing even with glasses. 10.0% of the population lives below the poverty level and 8.6% of adults are classified as illiterate.
