The SAAM "Day of Action" will be observed on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. This is nationally recognized in the United States as a specific day to focus awarness on sexual violence prevention. Through coordinated planning of special events, advocates can raise awareness, media attention and national momentum for ending and preventing sexual violence. The NSVRC encourages participants and those planning special activities to visit our Event Suggestions page for ideas on how to observe this day in your community and to post your events on the online calendar.
For the 2011 “SAAM Day of Action,” we are suggesting individuals capture the spirit of this campaign by taking a photo of themselves holding a clock, proclaiming how “It’s time … to get involved” in their communities. Also, we urge the online community to get involved in spreading awareness. We’re urging Facebook users to change their profile pictures on April 5, 2011, to show them holding clocks as well.
If you have a photograph from a SAAM "Day of Action" event or activity that you are willing to share, please email a copy to resources@nsvrc.org. Events from across the country may be highlighted in future SAAM and other printed materials, newsletters or online publications and sites including Facebook and Twitter.
