MADISON, Wis. – Today, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault (WCASA), in conjunction with the Attorney General’s Statewide Sexual Assault Response Team, announced the By Your Side campaign to support survivors of sexual assault. The By Your Side campaign is designed to reach out to all sexual assault survivors who had a sexual assault kit collected as the result of a sexual assault nurse exam.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 10, 2017) – Polaris, a global leader in the fight against human trafficking, issued the following statement tonight as Backpage.com, a long-time facilitator of sex trafficking in the United States, shut down the “adult” section of its website. The move comes hours before a hearing scheduled by the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

RICHMOND (January 11, 2017)-Attorney General Mark R. Herring and the Virginia Department of Forensic Science (DFS) today announced that they have secured a $2 million federal grant to implement system-wide enhancements to the way Virginia handles sexual assaults, from evidence collection and testing all the way through to investigation and ongoing survivor support services. The funds come from the federal Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, and will support the next phase of the OAG and DFS' ongoing PERK kit project.

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that South Dakota Forensic Lab (SDFL) has completed the testing of all rape kits from law enforcement agencies in South Dakota. Untested rape kits have become and continue to be a national concern.

Since the beginning of this Administration, the President and Vice President have made it a priority to root out sexual misconduct wherever it exists, especially on our nation's college campuses. Students have played a significant role in carrying out the Administration’s vision for having educational institutions that are free from violence. Around the country, college women and men are taking active roles in ensuring that their schools have robust and comprehensive plans to better understand and prevent sexual misconduct. 

BALTIMORE, MD (January 3, 2017) – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh announced today that his office has released the “Statewide Accounting of Untested Sexual Assault Evidence Kits” report. To better protect victims of sexual assault, the Office of Attorney General recommends presumptive testing of all sexual assault kits, victim notification of test results, and retention of kits until the statute of limitations has run.  

21 December 2016 - Children make up almost a third of all human trafficking victims worldwide, according to a report released today by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Additionally, women and girls comprise 71 per cent of human trafficking victims, the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons states.

HARRISBURG (Dec. 21, 2016) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said today that at least two of Pennsylvania’s major public crime labs are making swift progress toward testing their backlogged rape kits since his report in September.

“I want to commend the Philadelphia Police Department’s Office of Forensic Science and the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner,” DePasquale said. “Both are working diligently to outsource their backlogged untested rape kits and verify DNA results.”

The Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law announces the launch of the All Survivors Project, documenting sexual and gender based violence against boys and men in situations of armed conflict and displacement. The project, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees (UNHCR), will provide best practices and policy recommendations to improve the global response for all victims.
