This training is sponsored by Fenway Health and the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center with additional support from Brookline Psychological Services and features Howard Fradkin, Ph.D, LICDC The cost for registering for this training is $40. This includes coffee and pastries in the morning and lunch. Even advanced professionals are surprised to learn that 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual trauma. This training is designed to help mental-health professionals and providers in related fields gain a better understanding of the continuum of sexual trauma and of the impact of sexual abuse on men. The session will describe clinically effective techniques for recognizing and assessing for trauma, provide a conceptual framework for trauma treatment, and explain clinically appropriate responses and interventions. A networking luncheon will provide a forum for sharing local and national resources for male survivors and providers. Providers are encouraged to bring resource materials to share. Dr. Howard Fradkin has counseled over 1,000 male survivors in various contexts over the course of his 28-year career as a psychologist. He is the co-chairperson and co-founder of the Male Survivor Weekends of Recovery intensive weekend workshops for men at all stages of recovery from sexual trauma. Dr. Fradkin was recently invited to appear as an expert on Oprah’s ground-breaking shows featuring 200 male survivors, who gathered to offer hope and inspiration for millions of survivors worldwide. Hiding Place is a 3-Day Overnight Small Group Retreat for Survivors of Sexual Crime. Participants can seek sponsorship or become sponsors for someone else. This workshop is unique in its presentation of the ministry of Art as a healing conduit. Experience the healing power of specially prepared works of poetry, dance, music, mime, drama and visual art. The workshop includes personal group and individual growth sessions infused with the arts and passages from our text book ("Ravaged Relentlessly: Biblical Help for Those Overcoming Sexual Crime"), help-directed discussions and friendship building activities.

Each day is filled with devotional time led by Ministers, activities, personal prayer ministry, Bible Study of the Healing and Delivering Power of God for Survivors and available Christian Counselors if requested. Sessions on prevention will also be offered. You don't have to be a Survivor of sexual crime to attend. This is also a workshop for Believers that wish to be better equipped in the area of helping a person who asks for help. Learning to be sensitive, effective and discreet are all key skills to acquire.

The National Center for Victims of Crime is pleased to announce that the Responding to Crime Victims with Disabilities National Training Conference will be held December 13-15, 2011, at the JW Marriott Orlando Grand Lakes in Orlando, Florida.

Practitioners from the fields of victim assistance, disabilities advocacy, and allied professions (i.e., law enforcement, adult and child protective service workers, faith-based practitioners, prosecutors, medical practitioners/forensic examiners, mental health practitioners, and educators) should attend this unique training and collaboration opportunity.

This conference will enhance the capacity of victim service providers and allied professionals to more effectively serve people with disabilities who are crime victims.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office for Victims of Crime, the Responding to Crime Victims with Disabilities National Training Conference is being organized by the National Center for Victims of Crime in partnership with the Joint Center on Violence and Victim Studies, the National Council on Independent Living, the National Sheriffs' Association, the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, and Davis Innovations, Inc.

Proposals are being accepted until June 24, 2011.

Scholarships are avaliable to attend the conference.
