I’d be lying if I tried to deny that the most repeated phrase I’ve been saying the past few weeks is, “Can you believe it’s November?” In the beginning of the month, you could still hear the surprise in my voice, but at times this confession felt like a plea. Really, November, chill out. Suffice it to say, it’s been a busy month. I’m on pretty friendly terms with busy, and I can let you know we hit some major planning milestones and deadlines this month.

Last week I had the opportunity to take the SAAM act on the road, and I was fortunate to be heading to one of my favorite places on the planet: Jersey. The great folks at the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NJCASA) host an ongoing training institute to educate and inform practitioners on sexual violence prevention and survivor-centered approaches.

For those of us who work to create and share messages, we tend to think a lot about impact. Will this call to action move people? Does this commercial speak to you? We think about impact because we want to know if we are getting it right. Does our message stick? Whether you are looking to inspire social action or convince people to purchase a product, impact is your first opportunity to move your audience.

Planning for Sexual Assault Awareness Month has entered the second trimester, so to speak, as we are now counting down less than 6 months to April 2013. Whoa baby, the time is flying! On the backstage side of things, we are still in limbo with a number of deadlines leading up to the release of resource materials online and by mail in January. But there have been many planning milestones in recent weeks, and I’d like to provide a sneak peak on the topic of our upcoming campaign resources: Healthy childhood sexual development.

SAAM planning happens all throughout the year, but for the most part this campaign comes to life each Spring through the participation of communities and advocates. That said, you already know how we feel about endless April, and if you ask this blogger – campaigns supporting social change are always in season. With that in mind, let’s explore some October and upcoming campaigns that I’m falling for this fall:

It’s been a busy summer of campaign planning, and the SAAM team at NSVRC is donning teal hard hats as we work on resource development, designing materials and website updates. It’s truly a campaign construction zone over here!

As the campaign comes together piece by piece, it becomes easier to see the complete vision for SAAM 2013. It’s exciting! With the campaign progressing, we are excited to share a few updates:

Mixed Messages

This morning a two-hour drive from Philadelphia to Harrisburg had me listening to an unusually full set of morning news programming. As world, business, and local news updates cycled and my morning coffee settled in, two stories in particular caught my attention.
