ABOUT THE NATIONAL SEXUAL VIOLENCE RESOURCE CENTER The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) addresses the causes and impact of sexual violence through collaboration, prevention, and resources. WHAT IS SEXUAL VIOLENCE? Sexual violence is any type of unwanted sexualcontact. This can include words and actions of a sexual nature against a person’s will and without their consent. WORKING WITH THE MEDIA to promote informed reporting by providing training, background information, and referrals. SHARING NEWS AND RESOURCES to shift public thinking about sexual violence via our social media, monthly email newsletter, and blogs. PRODUCING A VARIETY OF PUBLICATIONS on topics such as campus sexual assault, program evaluation, and bystander intervention. NSVRC is committed to accessibility and underserved populations, and some materials are available in Spanish. PROMOTING RESEARCH AND STATISTICS on a wide variety of topics pertaining to sexual violence, trends, and best practices in sexual assault prevention. Founded by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape in 2000, NSVRC has its main offices in the state’s capital, Harrisburg. SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is an annual campaign observed in April to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on prevention. NSVRC develops a campaign theme, resources, and products in support of national, state, and local efforts — available at nsvrc.org/saam. One of the many ways Raliance leads the field is by distributing grants to improve responses to survivors, prevent perpetration, and create safer communities. LIBRARY The NSVRC Library (nsvrclibrary.org) has the world’s most extensive collection of sexual violence resources. The specialized collection provides access to a comprehensive selection of resources and professional librarians to assist in searches.
