Lisa Fontes
For 25 years I have been working as a researcher, activist, author, and trainer on topics related to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and child maltreatment. Initially, I worked as a psychotherapist in the homes of families referred to protective services for child sexual abuse and other forms of violence. Over time, I have also conducted research in the U.S. and Chile, and consulted with providers throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Chile, Argentina, Guyana, and other countries.
I have trained forensic interviewers in the U.S. and in other nations.
I have volunteered with Somali refugees.
I have written several books on related topics.
Population/Group Expertise
My focus is on cultural minority groups including Latinos, refugees, and other immigrants. However, I also speak about these issues in a range of cultural and religious groups, and in general.
Training Expertise
I have provided trainings for:
* mental health providers
* healthcare providers
* social workers
* attorneys
* advocates
* law enforcement
* judges
* parents and other caretakers
* CASA volunteers
* prevention workers
* students of all levels
I've provided these trainings at the local, state, regional, national and international levels, in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
