8 Ways to Get Involved in Sexual Assault Awareness Month

This April, it’s easier than ever to show your support for survivors and for sexual violence prevention.  Check out some of the simple but impactful ways you can get involved below.

1. Print and Hang a Poster

This year’s SAAM poster calls on individuals to use their voice to change the culture. Posters are available for free download in both English and Spanish. Whether you’re hanging it around your campus, community, or at your workplace, posters are a great way to share the message that we all have a role to play in ending sexual violence.

2. Attend a Local SAAM Event

Connect with your local rape crisis center or state anti-sexual violence coalition to find a SAAM event in your community. Tweet about the event to help amplify efforts using #SAAM. Use our online directory to find the contact information for organizations in your area.

3. Change Your Profile Picture

Share with your friends that you support survivors by changing your profile picture during April. Changing your profile picture takes less than a minute, but the action is a powerful way to spread the word about the importance of believing survivors. Go the extra step and change your Facebook cover photo as well.

4. Enter the 30 Days of SAAM Instagram Contest

Follow daily prompts listed here each day in April to show your support for survivors, to spread awareness, and win prizes. Tag your photo with #30DaysofSAAM and @NSVRC. Each week we’ll select a winner who will receive prizes including posters, t-shirts, stickers, magnets, and more!

5. Get Creative  Print a Coloring Page

Practice self-care and start a conversation! Coloring pages are perfect to hand out at events, to leave around community spaces, and to share with friends and family. Share your results on social media using #SAAM. Coloring pages are available in two different styles, and in English and Spanish.

6. Send a Letter to the Editor

Share the message that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month with your community by sending a Letter to the Editor to your local newspaper. A sample letter is available here. Just add your name, city, and submit!

7. Wear Your Support with SAAM Merch

Show your support for survivors with a SAAM t-shirt, temporary tattoo, or sticker. Shirts are available in both v-neck and crew cut and can be purchased here. Temporary tattoos and stickers can be purchased in the SAAM store

8. Use Your Voice to Change the Culture

Everyone can help address an online culture that tolerates rape – during April and every day. Online comments that blame victims contribute to a broader climate in which sexual violence is tolerated and not taken seriously. Help end rape culture by taking action online.
