April comes and goes quickly in the world of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year was particularly exciting as new voices, allies and partners helped to spread the word about SAAM. To close out this year’s campaign, it’s time to look back at an amazing month of activities and look forward with a vision for what’s ahead.
The national SAAM campaign highlighted the topic of healthy sexuality and young people. During the month of April many joined this discussion and others shared a variety of topics related to preventing sexual violence.
SAAM activism on social media was vibrant this year. Media, campuses and communities also joined advocates in proclaiming SAAM. Each day of the month, and most hours of the day, it was exciting to see people talking about SAAM 2014 and creating change to end sexual assault.

SAAM majorly felt the love of the blogosphere. The Huffington Post covered Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and partnered with NSVRC to create a month-long blog series. The SAAM blog also welcomed guest posts from partners in the field. Shout out to our amazing contibutors: youth activist Erin McKelle, 1in6, Scenarios USA and Youth 360.
Although SAAM 2014 has come to a close, it’s exciting to know that this campaign brought together so many voices with a shared goal to end sexual violence. The work ahead continues, but SAAM is an incredible opportunity to bring in new voices, proclaim the need for change, and celebrate the work of the field. Thank you all for playing a role in this year’s success! Everyone who participates in SAAM builds this movement.
