The goals of this Conference are to present the latest research, prevention, assessment, and intervention techniques concerning various aspects of child, adolescent and adult trauma and maltreatment and the long-term effects if they go untreated. Plenary and breakout sessions discuss the types of child, adolescent and adult trauma, the dynamics of maltreatment and trauma at home or in the community, and the effects on children, adolescents, and adults psychologically, behaviorally and neurodevelopmentally. Nationally and internationally recognized presenters and local practitioners come together to discuss the latest research, assessment methods, interventions, and prevention strategies for children, adolescents and adults who have been traumatized, abused, and/or victimized. VIBS Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center, in collaboration with Stony Brook University Medical Center and the NY State Department of Health, invites Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Physicians Assistants and Medical Doctors to attend the Suffolk County SANE/SAFE Training Program.A new SAFE/SANE training program has been scheduled from February 17-21.  It will be held at Stony Brook University Medical Center and is open to those licensed as N.P., R.N., P.A., or M.D. and have at least one year of clinical experience.  The program is a 5 day/40 hour comprehensive didactic training.  The SAFE/SANE training program meets the guidelines of the International Association of Forensic Nurses and offers its graduates 40 C.E.U.’s.  The tuition is $750.00.A Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) is a medical professional who provides compassionate care to adult and adolescent survivors of rape and sexual assault by obtaining medical histories, collecting forensic evidence and offering preventative medications.All interested parties wanting details regarding the informational sessions, may contact Jennifer, SANE liaison at VIBS, at 631-360-3730 or jjones@vibs.org

Taking Back Ourselves is a Weekend for women who are survivors of sexual abuse in any form.  In Taking Back Ourselves, women are able to utilize mindfulness, body work, music, art and movement - and empowerment - modalities in healing not often available to this dgree in traditional talk therapy, and to create a powerful community of women that will cointinue long after the weekend.Each woman will have the opporutnity to safely tell her story and be heard, to challenge herself to take a risk and embrace what she fears the most.The Weekend will consist of a combination of large group activities and small group process.  Women will be invited to practice new skills to stay grounded and centered in response to stress, and safely explore new ways of connecting to their bodies and remaining powerful even when they feel vulnerable.
