This Southern Regional Forum will be limited to 32 attendees with 25 advocates from OVW-supported programs and 7 non-OVW funded economic and social justice advocates. OVW grantees will utilize OVW training and  travel funds to attend; limited travel and boarding scholarships will be  available only for non-OVW grantees accepted to participate in the  Regional Forum. All participants MUST be based in organizations located  in a Southern State (AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA,  or WV).On April 18, 2013 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and April 19 from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., the Regional Forum will consist of panels, workshops, and brainstorming sessions to develop policy recommendations related to building and strengthening a safety net for women of color survivors in the following five arenas: Institutional bias and affect on services; Advocacy inclusion as part of our work; Re-entry populations; Tribal sexual assault; and, U & T-Visas. The Regional Forum will offer a mix of information-sharing on economic justice and survivors of violence as well as opportunities for contributing to policy recommendations while developing advocacy and leadership skills. During the Southern Regional Forum, attendees will be provided with light morning and afternoon snacks during breaks. To be considered for the pool of attendees, please complete the appropriate OVW or non-OVW advocate application.

Just Detention International and the PREA Resrouce Center are holding two FREE full-day trainings in Columbia, SC. The first training, on April 23, will focus on creating a trauma-informed victim services program, as required by the PREA standards.The second training, in April 24, will provide corrections staff with the skills to develop inmate education programs that comply with the PREA standards. Both trainings will be held at the same site in Columbia, SC.  Because the sessions complement each other, it is encouraged that you attend both.  Each will feature interactive exercies, expert panels, sexual abuse survivor testimonies, and group discussions that cater to individuals working in a range of detention settings.  Speakers will include leaders in the fields of law enforcement, corrections, advocacy, and mental health, as well as a survivor of sexual abuse in detention.For more information or to register, visit http://www.justdetention.org/en/south-carolina-regional-training-application.aspx

 Join members of the Rensselaer County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), students and professionals from healthcare, law enforcement, counseling, advocacy, higher education, and prosecution from throughout New York State for the third annual one-day conference on preventing and responding to sexual assault. Attendees of the conference may choose from a variety of workshops which fit their interests and training needs, and will also have the opportunity to network with other professionals.  The cost to attend the full-day conference is $40, which includes breakfast, lunch, refreshments, all conference materials and parking. This year, we are able to offer a special student rate of $32 for full-time students. The training is geared toward medical professionals: ARNPs, RNs, and physicians and is constructed by adhering to the National Training Standards for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examiners for adults and adolescents. The training will also be valuable to prosecutors, law enforcement officers, victim advocates and crime lab analysts. Courses include both lecture and hands-on skills training. Nursing participants receive 40 CEUs. Florida Council Against Sexual Violence is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Florida Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the Florida Board of Nursing Provider ID Number 50-3103. The course does meet the requirement of the International Association of Forensic Nurses, the certifying body of SANE, that students undergo a 40 hour course before becoming eligible to sit for the national exam.
