Safe Haven’s RYOT (Rallying Youth Organizers Together) Against Rape and All Forms of Abuse are holding the third annual RYOT Sparks A Healing Bonfire on Saturday May 7, 2011 at Camp Akenec on Route 739 in Dingmans Ferry from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will be our wrap up to Sexual Assault Awareness Month and, most importantly, healing and empowerment. RYOT members will be reading poetry, music and inspiration. Our main guest speaker is Rhett who is survivor who was part of the 200 Men on Oprah. His story will inspire all of us. We will wrap up the evening with Maxwell Kofi Donkor, an internationally known, award-winning sculptor, master drummer and teacher who will lead us all in a drumming circle of hope. This community event is open to the public and requires no fee; all are welcome to this evening of healing and inspiration. Free food and baked goods will be available for those who attend. Informational tables, and student artwork and writing will be displayed. RYOT (Rallying Youth Organizers Together) Against Rape and all forms of abuse is a youth leadership program that engages teens and community in the movement to end sexual and other forms of interpersonal violence.
Pueblo Rape Crisis Services is hosting its second annual Rock Against Rape concert to raise awareness in the community. There are four bands performing at the event, and the event is being held at a local restaurant/bar so there will be food and drinks available! The money raised from this event will be used toward creating support groups and expanding programs and services offered to survivors at Pueblo Rape Crisis Services.
