A 5K Run/Walk for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, along with an Earth Day fair featuring local resources, fresh hot chowder from Newport's Chowder Bowl, and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit Lincoln County domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking services.
Union County College, Union County Rape Crisis Center
To honor survivors of sexual violence and to help bring comfort to their families, friends, and our community, we will be gathering in the garden behind the Nomahegan building on the Cranford campus to show our support and help raise awareness of this issue. Glowsticks will be provided to all participants, thanks to the Student Volunteer Organization. Open flames are not permitted on campus. We thank you for refraining from using candles or lighters.
Union County College is offering a free screening of this powerful documentary to our students as well as interested members of the community and professionals at local agencies. Nancy Schwartzman's courageous documentary shines a light on issues of consent and female sexuality in way that we don't usually see elsewhere. Rather than asking whether or not women can or should say yes to sex, it's more a matter of how often our "no" often goes unheard or unheeded and that the question "Is it okay if we do this?" is rarely asked to begin with.
See the movie and join the conversation. Reservations are not required and anyone can attend. The movie does include some mature content that may not be appropriate for young children. Additionally, the College does not provide child care services. Please plan accordingly.
