To play a part in the BARS Campaign (Bars Against Rape and Sexism), Northland Family Help Center will host an “I Love Consensual Sex Prom: Preventing Sexual Violence thru Healthy Sexuality”. The BARS Campaign also includes: prevention posters hung in several participating bars, facility assessments, multi-session SVPEP trainings and a PR campaign.
WEAVE challenges Sacramento men to walk in high heels in an effort to increase awareness about sexual assault. This event gives men the opportunity to put themselves in women’s shoes while showing support for a great cause.
The Community March to End Sexual Assault is a positive avenue for teams of coworkers, families, neighbors and churches to stand up against sexual violence in our community. Last year over 100 men, women and children marched down Main Street with teams made up of local businesses, community service organizations, schools and individuals.
Mayor of York Kim Bracey and the York County commissioners will read proclamations. The event will be held at the York County Administration Center at 28 East Market Street in York. Members of the community are invited to show support for the elimination of sexual violence in York County.
Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, Student Action Group
The Student Action Group, in conjunction with the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, is putting on a Take Back the Night Candlelit Vigil and Speak Out. This is an event dedicated to ending sexual violence. Free and open to the public. Pizza, drinks, and t-shirts provided.
Come join the Turning Point as they celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the S.A.N.E. (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program. S.A.N.E. nurses have performed 1070 forensic exams in Collin County. Their meticulous work assists agencies, law enforcement and hospitals in providing top notch services to survivors of sexual assault. The Turning Point wants to acknowledge and honor these community heroes for their excellent service! Students from colleges and high schools throughout the county will be submiting art that will be displayed throughout the evening. Their art work will be used to enhance our community prevention efforts and inspires healing and hope for survivors of sexual assault! Feel free to contact the Turning Point for more information!
This fun, family-friendly event will encourage personal and community responsibility for ending sexual violence. Participants of all ages will pair up to step out together against assault, abuse, stalking, and harassment.
If 500 pairs participate, we will break the world record for the most pairs in a three-legged race!
Film screening of "Secret of the Dawn" and panel discussion about female genital mutilation (FGM) and efforts to end it. The documentary includes footage of Healthy Tomorrow's sister group Sini Sanuman, working to stop FGM in Mali. Susan McLucas will lead a panel discussion about FGM and efforts to stop it.
As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Walk Against Rape will be held on Saturday, April 30th, 2011. Walk Against Rape is a 3.5 mile walk starting at The Women's Building at 10:00AM and culminating in a festival at 1:00PM at Potrero del Sol Park ("La Raza Park). Walkers will arrive in the park to find speakers, performances, vendors, the Clothesline Project on display, prizes for the highest fundraisers, several community organizations who will be offering information and resources, and food and drink. Walkers interested in participating can download a registration form and begin to collect donations from their friends and family. All proceeds will benefit San Francisco Women Against Rape.
