Healing and Creative Arts Center, United Charitable Programs
The Healing and Creative Arts Center will host an online Blog Talk Radio My Time to tell-a-thon to encourage sexual assault victims to overcome the fear of expressing what happened to them. Listerners will also be encouraged to actively support resources for victims and survivors of sexual assault. Free copies of our My Time to Tell Journaling book will be offered.
The poems in this series are about finding oneself after sexual trauma, finding one’s power and voice. The first person a victim speaks to after a sexual assault occurs is called the “outcry witness”- that’s the second reason for the title. An outcry is what the author is literally trying to raise in written form. An outcry of anger, an outcry of disgust, an outcry of protest saying that we refuse to allow this kind of violence to take place anymore.
On display at the Tivoli Student Center throughout the month of April. If you are inspired by the display to decorate a shirt, then you can do so on Monday April 11th from 10-2pm in the Tivoli Student Center’s Multicultural Lounge.
The Red Flag Rally is a rally to raise awareness of interpersonal violence and the ways in which we can help our friends by noticing red flags. Kathy Robertson, mother of Abby Robertson, (a Metro Student who was stalked and murdered by her ex-boyfriend) will be speaking along with other guests.
