Strengthening Military-Civilian Community Partnerships To Respond to Sexual Assault is an interactive training that helps participants establish partnerships with local military installations in order to effectively respond to the needs of sexual assault victims in the military. Throughout this training, participants will build systems knowledge about military systems, protocols, and culture to improve service provision to military sexual assault victims and to develop an appreciation of the perspectives of their future collaborative partners. Training participants will gain information and skills related to:• On-installation resources, including the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), the military's single point of contact for matters related to sexual assault prevention and response and the military victim advocate.• Building successful collaborations, including the importance of writing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between their community-based program and local military installations to define roles, formalize agreements, and guarantee the longevity and continuity of such agreements.With the knowledge gained through this training process, in combination with their existing expertise in responding to sexual assault, participants will be able to serve as knowledgeable resources to military installations throughout the United States.WCSAP has funding available for participants from Member Programs to attend this training. While this need has made us stronger, it does not always feel like a gift. This year we want to acknowledge the value of resilience within ourselves, to celebrate this amazing ability, and to cultivate a community of care. It is the resilience in our lives, our communities, and our movement that inspires each of us to work for what seems impossible at times: the end of oppression and violence. This conference is a chance to connect to our co-workers, allies, and supporters, and to renew our energy, focus, and creativity. This 30-hour Advocate Core Training program is designed to help new sexual assault advocates provide responsive and effective advocacy to survivors of sexual assault. This training meets the requirements outlined by the Office of Crime Victims Advocacy.

Workshop Description: This workshop will define vicarious trauma and distinguish it from ideas of a job's "normal wear and tear." This training provides participants the opportunity to reflect on their current work experiences and learn preventative strategies for dealing with vicarious trauma. When considering environmental factors, levels of communication within organizations and personal methods of dealing with vicarious trauma, we can paint a better picture of creating healthy support and strategies for maintaining emotional well-being. This training is available to mental health professionals.
