The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) believe District Justice William Wenner’s decision to bound over all charges is a lesson to other institutions that leaders have a responsibility to protect all people in their communities. We can’t imagine how devastating it must be for leaders to learn that additional people were harmed after missed opportunities to involve authorities. As difficult as it must be for leaders, it must be even more troubling for victims to learn that another course of action could have been taken to protect them. Support and services are available to victims and survivors at www.pcar.org by searching for local centers. In addition, PCAR and NSVRC provide training, resources and assistance. The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape is the oldest state anti-sexual violence coalition in the U.S. The organization represents 50 sexual assault centers that serve the state’s 67 counties. Each year these centers provide education and confidential services, at no charge, to more than 30,000 men, women and children affected by sexual abuse. Founded by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape in 2000, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center identifies, develops and disseminates resources regarding all aspects of sexual violence prevention and intervention.
