In 1984, the National District Attorney's Association founded the American Prosecutors Research Institute (APRI) as a nonprofit research and program development resource for prosecutors. APRI focuses on curriculum development, training, technical assistance and research. Within APRI, the Violence Against Women Program addresses prosecutors' needs in sexual assault cases. More specifically, APRI staff provides case law, legislation information, trial preparation assistance, individual support during trials, access to experts, and training. APRI also gives information on topical background materials, training development and programs, technology, assessment of prosecutorial strategies and sentencing alternatives, and promising methods.
