The SANE Nurse Coordinator is responsible for providing timely, thorough, victim-centered, medically focused assessment and forensic evidence collection of sexual assault victims referred and assigned through Palm Beach County Victim Services (PBCVS) and Rape Crisis Center.  The SANE Nurse Coordinator is employed by Emergency Specialists of Wellington (ESOW) under contract with PBCVS.  Work is performed under the supervision of the SART medical provider in conjunction with the Director (and designee) of PBCVS and Rape Crisis Center.   

Responsibilities

The Nurse Coordinator is scheduled to work 40-hours per week and is based at the SART Center Victim Services office at 4210 N. Australian Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL.  Forensic examinations are performed at the Butterfly House or area hospital emergency departments.

The Nurse Coordinator manages day-to-day program operation and administration.  Examples of work include: scheduling, training, and ensuring adequate staff are available and back-up emergency options are in place; assisting in development of program policies and procedures; preparing monthly reports, invoices; maintaining necessary documentation and records; and participating in case follow-ups including depositions, taped statements, pre-trial and trial testimony. 

The Nurse Coordinator is an integral part of the clinical team and is responsible for completing entire sexual assault evidentiary exams including crisis intervention, STD prevention, pregnancy risk evaluation and interception, collection of forensic evidence, and referrals for additional support and care.  The Nurse Coordinator takes call and is back-up for the on-call SANE nursing staff.   The Nurse Coordinator assists with discharge plans for follow-up care, supportive counseling and advocacy for sexual assault victims.  The Nurse Coordinator serves as a liaison with PBCVS and other community organizations and is actively involved in community education about sexual assault issues and the role of SANE to include both informal community presentations and more formal classroom instruction.  Participation on SART team, attendance at meetings, and SART clinical is expected.
