Training Institute: Best Practices for Lawyers Assisting Pro Se Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking with Civil Protection Order Cases
This training is designed for attorneys who work with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Participants will learn how to develop a Pro Se Project and deliver safe effective legal assistance to pro se victims in civil protection order cases.
Attorneys who attend this training institute will be better able to:
(1) Identify the benefits and limitations of pro se assistance
(2) Design a Pro Se Project to deliver effective legal services to pro se victims seeking civil protection orders
(3) Develop victim-specific case strategy incorporating legal and non-legal outcomes
(4) Prepare pro se victims for a civil protection filing, hearing and enforcement process.

Registration is open to current Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) grantees. Legal Assistance to Victims (LAV) grantees are given priority. No more than 3 grantees from the same OVW funded program may register for the Institute without prior approval from the program’s grant manager. Registration is limited to 50 participants. If accepted, participants will receive a confirmation e-mail that will include information about accommodations and training logistics. Institute Start and End Times:
The Institute will begin on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 8:00am and will conclude at 5:00pm. Please schedule your travel arrangements so that you will be able to attend the entire Institute.
There is no registration fee to attend the Institute. Grantees may use OVW funds to cover allowable travel and accommodation expenses.
