I’m a big fan of lady parts in general. Love vaginas. Love the awesome power of the body. I am literally in awe of all that my body and my mind can do. At least…on a good day I am. As I transition back into the swing of things after 6 glorious weeks of getting to know a new little feminist, I am reconnecting with parts of me that were on vacation and relaxing parts that were on overdrive. During this time of growth and adjustment, I found the ideas presented in Alisa Vitti’s TEDx Talk particularly interesting.
The video, “Loving your lady parts as a path to success, power, and global change,” discusses the ecology of the female body. It’s not just a Ra, Ra, Vaginas talk. It explores the idea of embracing the natural system and flow of bodily cycles to take charge of your environment, both internally and externally. These are some fascinating ideas! The former med student turned functional nutritionist describes a personal journey of ecological alignment, as well as some pretty powerful ideas about how working together with your body can recharge your batteries. She draws inspiration from powerhouse feminists like Gloria Steinem and serves up a tasty argument for consideration.
So what do you think? Can teaming up with your lady parts (or just your parts in general) change the course of your life? Can nourishing and working in union with your body’s rhythms change the world? I’m pretty impressed with my own lady parts of late. Perhaps I’m biased, but I’d like to think so.
