SCCADVASA is searching for a new Executive Director. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to lead and to manage a nonprofit organization that seeks to facilitate social reform to eradicate interpersonal violence in South Carolina. The individual selected will possess:

1. Demonstrated successful fund development expertise. It is critical for the future of SCCADVASA that funding is secure; strengthening relationships, identifying new sources of revenue, grant and proposal writing and development of a diverse membership program will help assure this future. Grant management experience is also necessary.


2. Strong partnership and coalition-building skills. New and expanded partnership must be developed, serving the needs of SCCADVASA members and the state as a whole. The next Executive Director must be a good listener, strategist and collaborator. He or she will especially be able to engage with long standing stakeholders, members and friends but also build relationships with a wider group to build strong connections that are mutually beneficial to SCCADVASA and the state. Proven experience in building coalitions and relationships in a challenging environment is required.


3. Expertise in personnel and change management. The Executive Director will be an experienced and effective manager of people and change. He or she will understand and demonstrate skills in organizational planning, development and restructuring. The Executive Director will be able to build an effective staff team working together toward a common vision. He or she will engage SCCADVASA staff and board in a strategic, thoughtful process of alignment of programs, refocus and growth. Previous nonprofit management experience is advantageous.


4. Leadership and vision. The Executive Director will inspire confidence and provide leadership and vision to ensure a promising future for SCCADVASA. He or she will have the ability to face problems directly in a professional and assertive manner. Through innovation, strategic leadership, energy and commitment, the Executive Director will take SCCADVASA to the next level of excellence, inspiring and elevating support.

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall effective operation and administration of SCCADVASA in accordance with the stated mission and vision. This position involves a commitment to ending sexual assault and domestic violence through the establishment of a statewide presence and collaborative relationships, the promotion of effective services for survivors, and the development of effective, evidence-based prevention strategies. The Executive Director advocates regularly with the media, collaborative partners, and the legislature, and acts as the primary spokesperson for both SCCADVASA and member sexual assault and domestic violence advocacy programs. The ideal candidate is a strong, experienced leader with a track record of success. Passion for domestic violence and/or sexual assault issues and commitment to social change is essential. Personal assets will include integrity, high energy, excellent listening and relational skills, and a sense of humor. Assets being sought include: • The ability to inspire and energize others. • The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively in formal and extemporaneous settings, to engage people and convey passion for SCCADVASA’s mission. • Strong relationship building skills. • Expertise in securing a diverse pool of funding. • History of advocacy that promotes systemic change. • Proven ability to engage, manage, motivate and unite staff around common goals and strategies, and to drive teamwork and results across functions and work groups. • Ability to create an environment that welcomes feedback, discussion and new ideas that encourages innovation and new direction within the frame of SCCADVASA’s mission. • Ability to engage the board, staff, members, partners, and stakeholders in decision making to build consensus and to make tough decisions when necessary. • Ability to analyze and tackle problems in a fair and collaborative manner, as well as implement systems, processes, and accountabilities necessary to support solutions. • Proven business acumen with a track record of effective management and budgeting. • Bachelor’s degree in business or social science with at least ten years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in business, law, or social science with at least five years of relevant experience. • Travel is required; SC driver’s license and a good driving record necessary. • Must be located in Columbia, SC.
