2015 Sexual Assault Summit XIV: Start by Believing

The Wyoming Sexual Assault Summit Planning Committee is pleased to announce that session proposals are now being accepted for the 2015 Sexual Assault Summit XIV: Start by Believing. It will be held in Laramie, Wyoming on April 29 – May 1, 2015.  The Sexual Assault Summit Planning Committee strives to provide participants with discussion and training on trauma informed response to sexual assault and primary sexual assault prevention principles. The vision is that conference participants feel energized to empower their communities towards positive response to survivors and towards changing social norms.

Target areas to consider should include:

•Awareness building strategies
•Assessing community readiness
•Engaging community populations
•Primary prevention programming
•One on one conversations and next steps
•Creating positive social change

•Discipline based trauma informed response
•Collaboration and sustainability
•Organization assessment
•Providing accessible services
•Self-care in organizations/agencies
•Creating positive social change

•Specific front-line professional response
•Peer education and programming
•Bystander intervention
•Being an accessible professional to all populations
•Nurturing oneself
•Creating positive social change

Specific topics in these areas may include, but aren’t limited to, marginalized populations (with an emphasis on Native Americans and LGBTQ populations), medical forensic examinations, sex trafficking, historical trauma, intersectionality, sexual abuse in detention, criminal legal system, civil legal services, use of technology, and primary prevention. Sexual Assault Summit participants generally represent victim services, law enforcement, medical, and a handful of others including prosecution, civil legal attorneys, counselors, social workers, teachers, probation and parole, community citizens, etc.
