JOB TITLE: Safe House Counselor Advocate HPRP
HOURS 40 hrs/week, Days Sunday thru Thursday
CATEGORY: Hourly, non exempt
REPORTS TO: Safe House Manager
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide counseling, case management and advocacy to shelter residents and program participants in a manner consistent with the mission of WRC and in full compliance with all policies and procedures of the agency. Work with all shelter staff to maintain the safety, security, cleanliness and organization of the residence.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond to calls for assistance and information from program participants in the residents and on the hotline. Act as an advocate with legal, medical and social service systems.
- Provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and facilitate group and house meetings for residents and their children. Assist Safe House Manager with curriculum development for support groups in residence and facilitate groups (adult and children).
- Provide domestic violence counseling and crisis intervention to women and children in the safe house.
- Assess the needs of individual residents, develop service plans, and provide case management and advocacy for each resident. Encourage residents’ participation in advocacy and action program’s groups.
- Enforce and monitor house rules, safety rules, policies and procedures in the residence and in the entire building. Retain working knowledge of security systems.
- Supervise housekeeping assignments; maintain order of residence and maintain residence furnishings and equipment.
- Conduct daily safety checks, including: checking doors, windows, and lighting of building and report any safety issues/hazards to Safe House Manager.
- Assist Safe House Manager with developing and monitoring regular maintenance activities.
- Carrying out administrative duties, including participation in community meetings, and monitoring the budget in compliance with HPRP.
- Orient and supervise residence volunteers.
- Maintain client records and reports as required.
- Attend staff meetings; participate in in-service training and related professional activities as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned to assure compliance with all regulations of the shelter in serving those in need of services.
- Willingness and ability to rotate into evening, overnight and weekend shifts.
