Are you ready for SAAM?
Tomorrow is April 1, and the SAAM Day of Action. There are many ways you can honor the Day of Action, and here's a list of ideas of how you can get involved. Since it's also International Anti-Street Harassment Week, our first twitter chat for the month will be hosted by Meet us on the Street and partners. The global movement to end street harassment will be active all week long as communities proclaim the need for safer streets. This chat will highlight the connection between street harassment and sexual violence. With the SAAM Day of Action in mind, the chat will also explore organizing and activism.
Our twitter chat series will continue each Tuesday in April. This year's lineup of topics and partners has us so excited to tweet our hearts out for SAAM. Use #tweetaboutit to participate in the chats, and #SAAM all month long. Learn more about how to participate.
We're also picturing a world without sexual violence on Instagram with our first #30DaysofSAAM contest. Participate by posting and sharing photos for each day's daily prompt. You can also change your profile, share images and posts to spread the word about SAAM. Be sure to check out all the other ways you can participate in #SAAM on social media this month.
You may have noticed #SAAM social media activities are growing each year. NSVRC has a passion for mobilizing social change, and social media is a very powerful tool. Did you catch the twitter trend last week calling out rape culture? Users tweeted #rapecultureiswhen to share many examples of rape culture, victim-blaming, and the need for change. Amazing activism is happening in online spaces.
SAAM is about activism and social change, but it's also a time to celebrate the work of a movement. NSVRC's Visionary Voice Award honors individuals across the country who are contributing great work to sexual violence prevention. Learning about awardees and reading thier inspiring stories is a great reminder of the impact each of us can make.
April is an exciting time, and we look forward to hearing from you about how you are participating in SAAM. Be sure to share your events, activities and photos with us. Our goal is to highlight this great work and continue to inspire a movement beyond April.
