Back 2 schooled
Are you excited about fall? I am a lover of summer, but the cooler weather that is sweeping us toward a new season has been beautiful. In a time when holiday and seasonal items are marketed to us months in advance, it might be more fitting for me to plug a Thanksgiving post then to talk about back-to-school. Behind as I may be, I’ve got jeans, leaves, notebooks and pencil packs on the brain. The timing feels perfectly right as I’m seeing lots of opportunities to learn, make connections and otherwise get schooled. My first assignment, sharing a list of all the fall learning I’m pumped about!
NSAC reflections, recaps and special podcasts from PreventConnect
For those who were not able to make it to the National Sexual Assault Conference, or if you were there and want to revisit the ideas and energy of a movement gathered, be sure to check out PreventConnect’s latest posts. I couldn’t be at NSAC, but today I was able to watch video podcasts from sessions and connect to new resources and projects. A+
National Call of Unity for Domestic Violence Awareness Month
A free 45-minute call featuring a powerful spoken work poetry performance by ClimingPoeTREE. Join listeners across the country that are part of a movement to Mourn. Celebrate. Connect. An exciting opportunity to unite brought to you by the National Domestic Violence Resource Center. Bravo!
Building Healthy Futures 2013
This October I’m thrilled to participate in the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance’s upcoming conference on Promoting Sexual Health Among Youth. This conference explores healthy sexuality as sexual violence prevention, and I’m looking forward to learning from great minds in sexuality education. If you can’t make it to the training, be sure to check out the podcast with the presenters. Excellent!
Extra Credit: Creative activism looks to upset rape culture
Did you catch the unconventional consent conspiracy brought to the World Wide Web by art activist collective Force and college students from across the country? This online-hoax featured a re-tool of Playboy’s annual party edition hacked with consent and sex-positive values. Methods may be questionable, but this viral content brought consent to the forefront of campuses, news sources, and corporate powers. Wow!
What are you excited for this fall?
