This course provides 13 modules, giving a comprehensive discussion of recommended practices for the forensic expert to follow when preparing for and testifying in court. Because laws may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, experts are advised to check with local attorney(s) and become familiar with the laws applicable in the court where they will testify. Although penal code definitions of criminal sex offenses vary, most are conceptually similar and can be understood by analyzing their elements.  This type of analysis is represented in the charts provided with this module.  By following the charts and making a series of decisions, law enforcement investigators can determine not only which specific crime was committed but also frame the entire investigative strategy based on the defense that is most likely to be raised.

This 30 minute online learning tool is adapted from the Applied Research Paper, Marital Rape: New research and directions by Raquel Kennedy Bergen. Participants will learn the definition, risk factors, and effects of marital rape and will be able to identify potential intervention strategies.
