The Institute of Medicine (IOM) provides video recordings from a 2-day workshop to explore the evidentiary basis for violence prevention across the lifespan and around the world. The public workshop was organized and conducted by an ad hoc committee to examine needs, common approaches, and effective interventions.

This PowerPoint workshop (with Facilitator's Guide), based on bystander intervention theory and last year's 2009 Featured Event workshop, takes the audience through definitions of sexual violence, how bystanders can be engaged in sexual violence prevention, and includes a scenario for the audience to discuss and practice engaged bystander responses and is geared toward a college campus audience.

This 30 minute interactive course is adapted from the Applied Research Paper, Understanding National Rape Statistics by Dean Kilpatrick and Jenna McCauley. Participants will understand how and why rape statistics are generated for national studies; critically evaluate the information provided by national studies on sexual violence; and apply statistics in their work.
