Adopting Universal Trauma Precautions: Serving Patients Who Are Survivors of Sexual Violence
An estimated 25% of women in the United States will be sexually victimized at some point in their lifetime. In addition, approximately 17% of men in the United States will be sexually victimized before the age of 16. The physical and psychological consequences of sexual violence can be devastating. Survivors of sexual violence make up a significant percentage of health care consumers. However, many survivors do not disclose their victimization to their health care providers. Dr. Sheela Raja will provide health and social service providers, including medical care providers, dentists, social workers, teachers, mental health workers, substance use disorder treatment providers and community program staff with the tools necessary to provide trauma informed care to all patients and effectively treat survivors of sexual violence. Fee to attend is $100.00 per person.
