The purpose of this training is to provide nurses with knowledge to better care for the pediatric population affected by sexual assault. The training provides interview techniques and information to help the nurse recognize injury and evidence specific to pediatric sexual assault, as well as collect and preserve evidence. This training does not “certify” the nurse to perform pediatric sexual assault exams. Successful completion of the training indicates the nurse has attended the course. Although the course is intended for nurses who have already completed the SANE training for adolescents and adults, we recognize that there are nurses whose interest lies solely in caring for the pediatric population and welcome those nurses to attend the training.
