If you have been watching the headlines, an unfortunate reality has come to the forefront of mainstream media and in-turn our broader culture’s conversation: child sexual abuse happens.

Something exciting is happening this week, and I'd like to pass the proverbial "mic" to an NSVRC colleague whose passion for WEAAD is contagious! Oh, but first - let me fill you in, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day or WEAAD is an awesome campaign that proudly declares: My World...Your World...Our World – Free of Elder Abuse.

So as we’ve discussed, April has come and gone with many exciting awareness activities to prove it. Now that we are well on our way to Mid-May, brains at NSVRC are turning over the next campaign. Before we get ahead of ourselves, we want to make sure that as we move forward we take time to reflect, listen and learn about the past campaign.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2012

During April, raised awareness of the prevalence and impact of sexual violence is an opportunity to bolster prevention efforts. This year’s campaign, “It’s time … to talk about it,” focuses on healthy sexuality and encourages communities and individuals to join the conversation in order to prevent sexual violence.
