Prevention Palooza!

I am so excited about my next trip!  I hope many of you will be joining me in Los Angeles for the National Sexual Assault Conference (NSAC), August 28-30!

The NSVRC is proud to sponsor a track of NSAC workshops focused specifically on the prevention of sexual violence.   We worked closely with this year’s conference host, the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA), to review and select the workshops from this year’s plethora of prevention proposals (say that three times fast!).  We had over 100 to choose from, and although it was difficult, we narrowed it down to 23 dynamic workshops.  Special thanks to all of our partners at state coalitions, departments of health, local programs, and the CDC for helping us review each proposal.

We’ve got workshops on bystander engagement, effective messaging, reaching traditionally underserved communities, youth-led programs, media literacy, mobilizing communities, evaluating prevention, engaging men and boys…the list goes on and on.  Our hope this year is that those who are seeking prevention-specific workshops will have several options to choose from in each time slot.   I know I will have a hard time choosing which workshops to attend – I’d love to be in about 10 places at once for this conference.

Check out this podcast I recorded with CALCASA/PreventConnect’s David Lee about this year’s prevention track.    And if you are at the conference, stop by the NSVRC exhibit table and let us know how you liked the workshops (we’ll have lots of cool swag too!).

Can’t make it to NSAC?  Follow along on Twitter…we’ll be using the hashtag #NSAC2013.
