So, the holidays are over, decor is safely tucked away, I survived 70 degree days in December, and we had our first actual snow yesterday! Welcome winter finally! It may have waited until the middle of January, but I will certainly not complain. We recognize January as National Human Trafficking Awareness month.

I think I’ve decided that winter is just not going to come to us here in PA. Yes, I’m complaining about the weather, but I’m a skier. One cannot ski, if there is no snow and it’s 65 degrees outside, thus my sad reality. Therefore, if I can’t spend the holidays skiing, what else is out there that can occupy my time?

I have to say this time of year, at the moment, is completely baffling to me. It’s close to 80 degrees outside here in PA and yet stores have taken it upon themselves to bombard every customer that walks through the door with Santa and tinsel. I’m not the Grinch, but I find this beyond annoying.

Cooler weather seems to finally be here, somewhat anyway.  The month of October means a lot of things to various different people.  Beyond the pumpkin spiced lattes, football teams wearing pink (trust me, those are highly important too) October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You can check out a fabulous guide to this year's campaign on VAWnet.

I have learned throughout my life how to handle stress in various capacities. For example, devouring anything consisting of chocolate and peanut butter, which might be one of my favorite (don’t judge, I’m sure there are health benefits somewhere) ways of dealing with my own stress. However, more often for me running or being with my dog are actually probably my favorite ways to deal with stress.

I have to say that the library community seems to get a few things right in terms of creating a place and a space that’s accessible and inviting to everyone. Yes, I am biased, but I believe it’s true; libraries do a wonderful job at celebrating all people.

We are now entering my favorite time of year. I love the sun, the warmth, the flowers, and the long days. Growing up out west where it’s sunny even on cold days the majority of the year has made the east sometimes difficult to deal with. Being able to be outside in the sun is where I find solace. It makes dealing with the day’s events and the issues in the world, so much more bearable.

So, my co-worker and I just had a fabulous opportunity to present in front of the Central Pennsylvania Health Library Sciences Association. Now before you roll your eyes and stifle a yawn, let me explain. This is a group of individuals that work within the library field either at a hospital or a college associated with a hospital.

It’s here! It’s finally here and raging full speed ahead. SAAM 2015 has started with so much awesomeness, that I am blown away!

Do you feel it? There’s an excitement in the air that can only mean one thing: SAAM 2015!
