So, my favorite weather guy claims it’s going to be 90 tomorrow with humidity. Ok, no big deal, it is July after all. However, I wish someone would tell the overzealous stores and radio advertisers that it’s still summer and school is not back in session!

At this point, perhaps the books I mentioned in my last posting have all been read or there wasn’t anything that jumped out at you. Never fear. The NSVRC library has many more children’s books and healthy sexuality books to go around!

At this point, it’s perhaps safe to say that school is out and the summer has begun for most of us. This brings to mind the thought of long, hot and for some humid days. Kids as well as parents become restless. What better way to occupy time than reading a book? In the case of the NSVRC library, not only would reading be going on, but valuable lessons as well.

I am beyond excited to announce that on June 6th, the NSVRC Library achieved a milestone. On this extraordinary day, the library collection reached 30,000! As it stands now, we have surpassed a long awaited goal of reaching and going beyond this fantastic number of unique titles. These are titles that pertain specifically to sexual violence, prevention, and other related topics.

This week we lost an incredible individual. Maya Angelou was many things to many people. I listened to her narratives in History classes and analyzed her poetry in English classes in college. Her way with words was absolutely mesmerizing. She had an ability to tackle issues that no one wanted to hear and turn them into something exquisite.

In my last posting, Tulip Invasion: Resources for Survivors, I mentioned my shear annoyance in dealing with the never ending tulip bulbs in my flower bed. In my frustration over the bulbs, I will admit that I missed what’s going on with my beautiful Azaleas. The Azaleas are my true treasure. I love their colors and complete brilliance.

As I was contemplating this next blog, I kept thinking of the annoying tulip bulbs that keep popping up every year around this time in front of my house. Despite my effort to rid my flower bed of them, there they are, back with a vengeance.  Whoever planted them before me has given me something that I can’t seem to get rid of.

This week is an official week of celebration. In the library world, we celebrate April 13-19th as National Library Week. It is a time to celebrate any and all libraries, the NSVRC library included!

Women’s history is filled with many victories, as well as struggles. The work of the suffragists from the mid 1800’s set a tone and a presence for generations of women after. They worked to obtain the right to vote, which they may not have seen in their lifetime. However, many who have come after them have been able to reap the reward of their persistent hard work.
