April is SAAM!

Sexual Assault Awareness Month logo

In case you haven’t heard, April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). During this exciting time communities, campuses, workplaces, and individuals join together to promote awareness of sexual assault and educate about sexual violence prevention.

Each year, NSVRC coordinates a national campaign with tools, materials and resources around a specific theme to support these local prevention efforts. This is accomplished with insight from the field and feedback from those who use our resources. This year’s campaign, “It’s time … to talk about it,” focuses on healthy sexuality and encourages communities and individuals to join the conversation in order to prevent sexual violence.

This blog is a space to share and highlight these resources, as well as others, and discuss how to use and implement these tools for a successful SAAM campaign. The SAAM Blog also takes a behind-the-scenes look at the conversations, planning steps and lessons learned in coordinating an awareness campaign with the goal of social change.

Since we know that community efforts to raise awareness and education don’t end in April, we plan to keep the conversation going all year long. From highlighting innovative programs and involved communities to exploring outreach and promotion strategies – we’ll cover topics relevant to strengthening your SAAM campaign and overall programming.

Thank you for joining on this journey towards awareness and beyond! We hope that you’ll takeaway helpful information and chime in the discussion too. Be sure to comment on posts, share your ideas, and give us feedback on the topics you’d like to see covered.

With 18 days to go in April, and a big-picture mission to end sexual violence, it’s an exciting time. Happy SAAM!
