Last week I had the opportunity to attend the National Sexual Assault Conference in L.A.  It’s not often that you get the chance to be surrounded by 1,400 colleagues/friends/fellow anti-sexual violence activists/advocates/preventionists.  What a great way to spend the week, not to mention the fact that we got to soak up the glorious California sunshine.

The morning plenary session at the National Sexual Assault Conference erupted in a group chant that sent chills up my spine. "Si se puede!" led by speaker Dolores Huerta. The power of 1400 voices rising together, believing that ending sexual violence is possible, made the struggles, frustrations, and doubts throughout the year worthwhile.

I’ve been following the hashtag #SolidarityIsForWhiteWomen on Twitter since learning that it was trending. I am not going to try to explain it. I think it’s pretty straightforward. I don’t think I have the right to analyze it. That’s not the point. I’m bringing it to a blog platform at the NSVRC because I think it’s the right thing to do. The anti-sexual violence movement grew out of the a feminist movement.

The Know Your IX website exploded on social media earlier this week and I couldn’t be happier about it. The website provides information, planning tools, and strategies for campus-based organizers to promote equitable education for all.

If you read nothing else today, read Anthea Butler’s piece on women of color and feminism. Read it if you are White. Read it if you are a man. Read it if you eat green eggs and ham.
