Women’s history is filled with many victories, as well as struggles. The work of the suffragists from the mid 1800’s set a tone and a presence for generations of women after. They worked to obtain the right to vote, which they may not have seen in their lifetime. However, many who have come after them have been able to reap the reward of their persistent hard work.

I am going to go out on a limb for a moment in hopes that I can say this and have it be the truth. With longer days and daylight savings rolling in this weekend, perhaps we can expect warmer days to return as well. Although, I enjoy snow activities, I’m ready for a change. The NSVRC library is coming into a change as well. The library catalog is in the midst of a little revamping. It’s a bit like the remodeling shows on HGTV that I am completely addicted to. It’s in the midst of a “renovation.”

So you’re sitting around the table having a nice Friday night with your parents and adult siblings. Passing around the takeout containers, finding enough clean forks, and then, suddenly, the rape culture conversation starts.

A sister is discussing the community safety alerts that have been coming out recently at her college. Another asks what they’re for. Sister #1 says they’re pretty serious, robberies and rapes.

Sister #2: “Real rape or cry rape?”

*Ears perk up…what now?

Sister #1: No, it’s real rape. But we had someone cry rape one time last year.
